Abstract

This essay provides a description of the Sirat Bani Hilal Digital Archives of the University of California, Santa Barbara, including an account of the original fieldwork and collection of the materials in an Egyptian village in the 1980s, the funding history of the archives, historical background about the Arabic oral epic tradition of Sirat Bani Hilal, and an account of the special features of this collection on interest to researchers in a variety of fields.
